Harrow Green was appointed to deliver a structured programme of technical moves, staff moves and enabling logistics across the University of Brighton’s Eastbourne and Falmer campuses.
Works included: Site induction and mobilisation, Carton distribution enabling works across multiple buildings, Technical packing and preparation from multiple locations, Internal staff moves at Checklands, Racking relocation, Phased move delivery and the provision of a dedicated Move Coordinator / Project Manager role on-site to support sequencing, coordination and daily liaison during key phases.
The Challenges:
Multi-site, multi-building complexity: Delivering a coordinated programme across two campuses and numerous buildings, with varied access constraints.
Sequencing dependencies: Packing had to be prioritised to free racking and enable planned dismantle/move/rebuild activities over a tight weekend window.
IT sensitivity: Staff moves included the handling of IT kits, requiring appropriate packaging and controlled relocation.
Operational constraints and access control: Teams operated under campus rules, H&S induction requirements, mandatory PPE (RHG high viz), and controlled-access passes.
Programme intensity: Overlapping workstreams required disciplined scheduling and daily coordination.
What we delivered:
Planned, phased delivery model: Works were structured into defined options/workstreams (Tech Moves, Staff Moves, Coordinator Role) with clear resource allocation by day.
Priority-based packing approach: Packing teams focused first on critical locations (e.g., Greynore 2, Robert Dodd, Robert Dodd Annexe) to release racking for the scheduled relocation.
Specialist materials and equipment: Anti-static packing protection, techno cartons, skates and vinyl tape supported safe handling of IT and technical items.
Dedicated teams by function: Separate packing teams, move teams, unpack teams, and a specialist fitter/porter crew for racking ensured productivity and safe execution.
On-site move coordination: A dedicated Harrow Green Project Manager provided Move Coordinator support during key phases, maintaining programme control and client liaison across changing daily requirements.
Highlights
Successful enabling works delivered, including distribution of 705 Pack 2 cartons across Falmer and Eastbourne in the required sequence.
Priority technical packing completed to release racking and support follow-on activities.
Racking dismantled, relocated and rebuilt across campuses within the planned weekend window using specialist fitters and 7.5T vehicle support.
Staff and technical moves progressed through planned phases (Tech Moves 1–4 and multiple staff move waves), supported by structured resourcing and on-site coordination.
Improved programme control and continuity through the provision of an Harrow Green Move Coordinator role during critical delivery periods.
