We’re sponsoring a volunteering expedition to Borneo
Earlier this year we received a request to sponsor a young student realise her dream of volunteering in Borneo and we were more than happy to help.
Over the last few months, Lilly, a student at Colchester Sixth Form College, has done an incredible job raising money for the trip, adding to our contribution by holding fundraising events such as boot sales, raffles and cake sales and now the time has almost come for her to start the four week adventure!
Lilly will be undertaking the trip with Camps International, who organise trips to some of the poorest communities around the world.
During the expedition Lilly will visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, which rescues and treats orphaned and injured orangutans before they are released back into the wild. She’ll travel by boat down the Kinabatangan River before embarking on a 4 - 5 day trek through the jungle, wildlife spotting and visiting a memorial to World War 2 soldiers. The trip will also give her the chance to learn first aid and survival techniques whilst mastering a range of other traditional skills.
Camps International have achieved some remarkable results in countries across the world, including building classrooms, protecting wildlife habitats, planting trees and providing clean water storage. We’re very happy to have been able to help Lilly raise the money she needs for her expedition and are excited to hear more about her adventure as it progresses!
