West Ham Utd F.C

Restore Harrow Green - West Ham United

The Challenge:

West Ham United, East London’s premier football club, known for its long-held football principles and knowledgeable fans, was made the anchor tenant of London’s Olympic Stadium and made the move to its first new home in more than 100 years.

The Project:

The project was high profile and complex as it involved many phases, several locations, very tight deadlines and an important new season just around the corner. Before starting the move we undertook a detailed site visit to find out the club’s exact requirements which enabled us to diligently plan the move.

We moved over 100 staff and numerous assets including office furniture and items of historical importance to the club. An important task was moving all the contents from Baroness Karren Brady, West Ham’s Vice Chairman’s office including bespoke furniture, framed pictures, canvas paintings of Bobby Moore, a bespoke glass table, china and glass, filing and personal effects into her new office at the London Stadium. The glass topped desk was export wrapped, placed in a purpose built crate, lined with two layers of protective material and tailored corner edging to ensure it arrived safely.

We were given the prestigious task of removing the magnetic white strips which fans had written farewell messages on and taking the strips down from a wall near the pitch tunnel, wrapping, packing and transferring them to the London Stadium for display at a later date. We also carried out the unusual task of moving 1,000 seats from the Boleyn terraces as well as memorabilia including medals, trophies and a signed German shirt from the 1966 World Cup Final. Every item was carefully packed and secured for a safe journey to its new home. In addition, we made sure that the club’s fine china, valuable glassware and crystal arrived in perfect condition at the new Chairman’s Lounge at the London Stadium. All of these tasks required specialist handling and careful wrapping skills, using tailored materials and bespoke boxes.

The contents of the Inspire Learning Centre including classroom effects, TVs and furniture were all securely packed and put into storage to be delivered at a later date. One of the biggest challenges was moving a large safe from the counting office at very short notice. It took six operatives, specialist moving equipment and all of our expertise to move the safe into its new location. Another important phase of the relocation was the movement of office furniture to the new Reservation Centre at Stratford Westfield. Finally, personal effects and furniture were relocated to the new training ground at Rush Green, although still under construction at the time, every item was placed safely into its new position.

Our Solution:

The changing scope of works, tight timeframes, multiple locations, diverse range of items including bespoke packing and moving and working closely with contractors provided us with some challenges. Despite this we managed to ensure a highly successful delivery of the project. West Ham was delighted with our service. We’d say that was a great result.
