Pharma industry news

Pharma industry As a laboratory relocation specialist we were overjoyed by recent news by Insider Media Ltd that Investment in the life sciences sector could boost the North East's economy by millions of pounds and create hundreds of jobs, according to the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI). The Research claimed that hitting the government's target of 2.4 % of GDP in the Pharma industry could add £25m to the region's economy.
This news is extremely encouraging, despite fears for the economy following years of uncertainty created by the Brexit referendum.

Further positive news was published in another recent announcement by the ABPI stating that a new £56 million UK innovation centre set to revolutionise how medicines are manufactured, is to be located in Renfrewshire, Scotland, allowing the UK to capture a bigger slice of the global £98 billion small molecule pharma market.
Both these recent developments in the pharma field are welcomed by everyone at Restore Harrow Green and we hope to see more initiatives of this nature emerge in future, in an industry where we’re highly active and frequently contribute to.

Birmingham Charter AwardWe are proud to announce our Birmingham branch’s acquisition of the “Birmingham Business Charter for Social Responsibility” award which was achieved by meeting the high business standards required by Birmingham City Council.

The award recognises organisations that have acknowledged the importance of corporate social responsibility in order to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of Birmingham’s citizens.

It gives us great joy to see our commitment to society and the environment recognised by local authorities in the areas where we operate and aim to do more on local and national level as part of our overall ethos.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Commercial Mover of the Year Awards 2018!

The awards, are organised by the British Association of Removers (BAR) and examine various aspects of service delivery by each relocation company, by approarching our customers and asking a series of questions around quality, project delivery, staff professionalism, communication methods, focus on presentation and attention to detail as well as the customer's overall impressions.

The process focusses a great deal of attention to detail and precision among other factors, and the judging committee, which is independent to the BAR, approach all customers directly and individually. Customers remain anonymous throughout the process which safeguards impartiality and integrity, making the awards a highly coveted accolade in the relocation world.

The results will be announced at the BAR annual conference on 17-19 May 2018 and we’ll be in attendance with our fingers crossed!

At this ESG workshop, you'll hear how better performing new buildings bring ‘green alpha’ to developers and investors, could enhance the UK’s competitiveness in a global market for investment flows and location choices and directly support the Paris Agreement. Debate how Design for Performance can be included in the next update of the BCO Guide.

Here at Harrow Green we have regular fund raising events amongst our staff in order to raise money to donate to our causes as well as increase awareness about them.

This period is no exception as the 26th February to 11th March marks Fairtrade fortnight and we're taking part in order to support the farmers and workers who grow our food around the world.

Fairtrade changes the way trade works through better prices, decent working conditions and fairer deal for farmers and workers in developing countries. Supermarkets supply an ever growing amount of Fairtrade products and the team here are always on the lookout for them and by being mindful of what we choose to buy.

As a mini campaign we've also made available a quantity of Fairtrade products for sale in our staff canteen, the proceeds from which will go towards the cause.

This week delegates from Harrow Green attended BIFM's Women in FM conference which was hosted at RPC's headquarters in central London on the 13th of February.

The conference was titled "Challenging the Mindset" and focussed on the impact of overwork, stress and mental illness on our lives and examined the importance of tackling and being open about mental health problems in the workplace and beyond.

Speakers included prominent names in the Facilities Management industry who bravely spoke about their personal struggles and how they overcame them.

We were very honoured to be part of this moving event and learned that with the love and support of our friends and collegues, most challenges can be overcome or managed. We've also commited to sign up to the Time to Change campaign which aims to end mental health discrimination.

The event was covered extensively on Social Media and was widely applauded by the industry.

We look forward  to the next WIFM event in 2019.

At a brief presentation held at our London office yesterday, we were officially presented with our Planet Mark™ Sustainability Certificate which we received last September for our performance from May 2016 to June 2017. You can read the news piece here

The report measures our carbon footprint and environmental performance based on various factors such as vehicle fleet performance, electricity and water use among others. This year upgrades we performed on our fleet of vehicles to make them more efficient, along with habitual changes in how they are used by our drivers, such as a strict “no-idle engine” policy, helped improve our performance. In addition to that, our installation of LED light fixtures throughout our offices and new warehouse allowed us to reduce our overall company footprint by 6.3% which was above our projected target of 5%.

This is our fifth consecutive year of receiving the certificate and of making steady progress in our commitment towards the environment. We aim to continue to improve our performance and to lead the way in our industry every year by appointing a dedicated "green team" which ensures that they way we approach our work is as ecologically efficient as possible. Watch this space for future updates.
