Harrow Green Case Studies - University of Leicester

handshake vectorThe Client:

At each stage of the site development the priority was to ensure that the library was kept working and continued to provide essential services, including the call-off of stock in store, to the student and academic body.

target vectorThe Project:

When the building works created a shortage of suitable storage space on site, Harrow Green provided temporary secure storage at their regional facility.

Rare books were separately packed and relocated to an environmentally controlled safe store and then moved back into location when the library building was completed.

building vectorThe Outcome:

  • To ensure minimal disruption the Harrow Green team operated a seven day two shift pattern, working through public holidays and in the early hours of the morning to complete relocation phases before the library opened for business.
  • A flexible working and pricing methodology was agreed to ensure the needs of the construction company and the university were met within the project budget and timescale.

Harrow Green relocated many miles of books, journals and scholarly materials. When the building works created a shortage of suitable storage space on site, Harrow Green provided temporary secure storage at their regional facility. From there it operated a next-day delivery service for items required urgently. Staff were able to continue delivering services throughout the construction period.

It was necessary to move the core professional team several times during the construction period, as well as materials and equipment. These included office furniture, library furniture and shelving, files, safes, library and office equipments as well as books and periodicals. Some furniture disposal was required, in particular for very old furniture where the metal components were separated for recycling.

“I’d like to say how impressed I am by the organisation during the move. Today I’ve needed three books in three different sections on three floors, and have had no trouble each time despite the large-scale moving.”

Quotation markClient Feedback:

Harrow Green are great team players – supportive, reassuring and highly professional. Because the move was planned so intensively beforehand, there was minimal disruption to our users, as this comment we received illustrates.
