With more than 8,000 dedicated staff caring for patients around the clock, St George’s NHS Trust is the largest healthcare provider in southwest London. Being a major acute hospital that offers very specialist care for the most complex of injuries and illnesses, they wanted a removals expert with wide knowledge and experience of hospital moves, who could work fast and efficiently while being respectful of the needs of a health care setting.
St George’s needed to re-organise how they use their space, to make sure the layout of departments makes sense and to improve the smooth running of the hospital. In all, this huge and complex project will involve the relocation of 350 staff. In Phase 1, we moved 92 staff, with all their equipment, working days and evenings to fulfil all the client’s requirements and carry out this important relocation within strict time deadlines.
Our skilled teams moved desks, furniture, numerous files and all sorts of office equipment, packing everything including 500 metres of filing which we packed sequentially, transported, and unpacked, making sure that everything was in the right place at the right time, fully functioning and ready for the staff to carry on their crucial work, with the absolute minimum of disruption.
This is an enormous site so our team needed to thoroughly familiarise themselves with the site’s geography before it was time to start the move. We incorporated this learning into our staff training and preparation, and we will ensure staff continuity for the next phases so such training doesn’t have to be carried out twice.
We also took in our stride various additions to the original planned works: our multi-skilled staff were asked to install and test new telephones, which we quickly included in our programme and completed in time for staff arriving at their desks. And when our client found that they needed to move some furniture into storage, we were able to take care of this for them straightaway, using our own storage service.
Pre-move site visits and meticulous planning meant that Phase 1 of this enormous project was a complete success. Maintaining communication with our client at all times, and following our precise and efficient plan, meant that at the end of three days everything was in place and all additional services had been completed. Staff arrived at their new locations to find their desks and equipment positioned exactly as they had asked, with new phones in operation, and everything in full working order.
