“Harrow Green has always known that customers shape
its business. We go to them with what they’ve asked for, not what
we think they might want. It works for us. It certainly works
for them.” A Brief HistoryWhen Harrow Green was formed in 1983 it consciously set out to re-invent the business move and focus on high-quality client partnerships long before ‘partnership’ became a byword for modern working relationships. Its defining strategy was to establish intelligent dialogue with its customers and focus as much on the quality of its account management and responding to the strategic needs of the client as providing a first-class physical move. This modern ethos – ahead of its time compared to the rest of its industry – resulted in early successes on major projects for the likes of BP, James Capel and Midland Bank; businesses that completely eclipsed Harrow Green in terms of size, but with whom this tiny service provider began to build a big reputation in the capital. Harrow Green soon became synonymous with large, prestigious corporate moves throughout the City of London and the new Docklands development. Between 1992 and 1994 Harrow Green was responsible for moving 85% of new occupants into Canary Wharf, including Morgan Stanley and Mirror Group Newspapers. In the early 90s, Harrow Green was first to introduce a dedicated computer services division, offering PC and ICT infrastructure moves. By the mid-90s Harrow Green’s commercial track record was unmatched within the industry with projects being undertaken throughout the UK and Europe, as far afield as Scotland, Paris and Milan. Specialist relocations were added to the company’s portfolio, including unique projects for, among others, The Natural History Museum and The National Maritime Museum. In 1999 Harrow Green received a prestigious partnership award for undertaking The British Library’s relocation of its rare book collection – some 28 kilometres of material – into its new St. Pancras site. Other ‘one of a kind’ projects have included major laboratory moves for SmithKline Beecham and Hewlett Packard, and 24/7 dealing-room moves for the likes of Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase. By the end of the 1990s Harrow Green’s specialist operating divisions had grown, covering new activities from furniture and workspace logistics to sophisticated records management and storage solutions. Most recently, the group has invested in a comprehensive engineering services division to meet the needs of industrial clients, and new interior design and build operation. Its complete service offering now provides clients with the widest choice of service options around the business change event. An energetic growth programme throughout the UK and Ireland is now providing dedicated regional and co-ordinated national coverage. “We have continuously aligned ourselves with changes
in the workplace, and we have supported the rise of the FM professional.
You
could say we’ve
grown up together.” Today, Harrow Green leads its service sector, and is recognised as a pioneer in reshaping its industry profile from a ‘blue collar’ removal company to a ‘white collar’ service provider that has matched the professional development of its clients. The company’s forward-thinking, collaborative approach has been recognised independently, with five prestigious partnership awards since 1997, including one for its innovative training centre. Harrow Green is the first choice for a wide range of organisations seeking an integrated solution when business change is on the horizon. Board of Directors
