“Health and safety lies at the core of my profession, and is the primary consideration on every single project.”
Stewart Purves, General Manager, Engineering Services

The engineering services environment poses the highest safety risks of any of our service areas. No surprise then that we take health and safety seriously, across all of our service divisions, but particularly in this working arena. So much so that, because the risks and the potential for fatal harm are often so high, it’s become one of the safest working environments for our clients and our people.

We pursue rigorous health and safety checks on every project, and we synchronise our own practices with Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations, where they exist.

Our teams are trained to focus on the health and safety aspect of every project, and key team members have previously attained RoSPA’s gold standard for operational safety.

Health and Safety Procedure

Health and safety is a dynamic, live process that varies considerably between sites and projects. As a minimum, we carry out the following health and safety procedures in consultation with each client:

  • Environmental assessment (site survey).
  • Risk assessment.
  • Method statement outlining safe working practices.
  • Special induction training to comply with client’s own health and safety methodologies.
  • Collaboration on the health and safety procedures of other contractors.
  • Synchronisation with CDM regulations:
    • Pre-tender health and safety audit.
    • Project health and safety audit.
    • ‘Live’ health and safety file kept on site.

Health and Safety Documentation

Complete and up-to-date health and safety documentation exists and is available for scrutiny at any time. Documentation includes:

  • Health and safety manual.
  • Documentation on the health and safety responsibilities of every employee, and standards on safe working practices.
  • Current safety and test certificates for all equipment.

Health and Safety Abroad

Britain has some of the toughest health and safety legislation in the world. When we operate overseas, we adhere to British health and safety standards that, more often than not, will exceed those of the host nation. We continue to work collaboratively and closely with overseas client partners, but without compromise on the fundamental principles of health and safety.
